Greyscale- Free Compositions

  1. I like the use of geometric shapes and different color swatches, it sort of feels like a game or even the inside of a machine. I also liked how you used diagonal lines at both ends, because it helps the viewer's eyes jump from one place to the other.

  2. I like how you contrasted the shapes and the grey scale it makes the whole thing unified and I agree with Rachel it does feel like an old video game, but I feel you should work on the frame. Also you have created some F/G with the empty spaces shaped like diagonal lines, but I think you should keep playing with that.

  4. great technical work, I especially like the negative space cut out of the darker values. My eyes jump from one shape to another constantly with this piece.

  5. I think as a whole, you did a good job being able to help the eye contrast different shades and be able to use each shade as a way for the eye to move around the composition. The way each pattern in some areas repeat, but pointing in different directions is a nice touch (ex. circle with long rectangles or rectangles dividing space)

  6. The different shapes created with the 1"x1" swatches gave this composition a lot of movement. For me, since our original base was one- inch squares, my eye immediately jumps to the circles and then the surrounding shapes around it. Besides that, I really appreciate your efforts in painting more swatches to create bigger and more organic shapes. They all look very consistent and clean which unifies the whole piece.

  7. I love that you used pieces left over from the last project as well as incorporated new bigger pieces that you made for this. The use of geometric shapes brings a certain order to the piece even though its technically a cluster of shapes, which comes to mind as disorderly but isn't. And I agree with Christine. The way the pattern repeats with variations of where things are pointing was a great idea.

  12. This reminds me of Louis Nevelson's work.Very well executed, and a very strong ambiguous composition.I like that one dark circle where you cut out a strip,I'd like to see more of that kind negative space to create more unity.Overall, very good,as always.
